传统油纸伞制作过程非常繁琐，全部依赖手工完成，周期较岩搏长。制氏猜作一把油纸伞需要经过选竹、水浸、泡竹、蒸竹、晒竹、拼架、穿线、裱伞等72道工序。以手工削制的竹条做伞架，以涂刷天然防水桐油的皮棉纸做伞面。
中国歼枣型内传承较好的油纸伞作坊，如秦风汉月油纸伞、若水堂油纸伞等，仍然以传统古法制造油纸伞，86道工序全手工操作，从削竹到绘制图案都是全手工，没有使用机器。材质也固守传统，为的是保持其古法天成的韵味，不使其沦于工业化。
